Workshops

‘What is a teacher? I’ll tell you: it isn’t someone who teaches something, but someone who inspires the student to give of her best in order to discover what she already knows.’

Paulo Coelho

I run a range of workshops that blend big ideas with practical writing tools, exploring the craft of writing, the patterns that underlie narrative, and the ways story can guide personal growth and transformation both individually and collectively.

The workshops are divided into three series: Alchemy of Story, Essence of Story and Mechanics of Story. All of which have evolved from many years of teaching, writing and mentoring, as well as a PhD and ongoing research into the nature of creativity and the purpose of story as a tool for reimagining our world.

‘Rosie’s workshops are always inspirational. I leave with my head buzzing. If I’m stuck, I have new ideas. If I have an idea, I learn new ways to develop it. I would recommend a Rosie Dub workshop to every aspiring writer. ‘

Jo St Leon

In these workshops you will:

  • Learn and apply practical writing techniques to enrich your fiction and non-fiction

  • Explore the role of stories in your life

  • Delve into the underlying patterns and structures of narrative

  • Discover how writing and reading can release stories that no longer serve you

  • Reclaim the power of imagination to reconcile the past, engage the present, and reimagine the future.

‘Laughter, empathy and a safe space to learn, create and share. Fabulous teaching and a wonderful supportive group.’

Erica Adamson

Each workshop is designed to be accessible to all levels of experience, whether you are a writer, seeker, or change-maker. Most are one-day workshops or weekend intensives, though some of the Mechanics of Story ones can run as two our or half-day workshops and some are longer courses.

You can find upcoming workshops on the Events page.

If you would like me to run one or more of the workshops for your writing group, festival or other event, get in touch.

‘Rosie Dub's workshops are not just for writing - her deep understanding of human-ness offers extraordinary ways to explore the inner world and its dynamics, to understand ourselves and others. I really recommend them to seekers, those who journal, who write anything at all and/or to those who want to know thyself and our co-mysterious creatures that bit better.’

Alchemy of Story Workshops

A book must be the axe for the frozen sea inside us.’

Franz Kafka

The Alchemy of Story workshops are a multi-faceted exploration of the power within story to transform each of us, linking the art and craft of writing with the potential for personal development.

For anyone wanting to reconnect with their inner stories, uncover the deeper narratives that drive them, and reimagine their lives with clarity and purpose.

Using a fusion of big ideas and practical techniques, in these workshops we

  • explore the role of stories as maps, helping us to navigate our inward journeys; each journey uniquely individual yet echoing in the footsteps of those who have come before

  • delve into story and explore its underlying patterns.

  • identify ways in which writing and reading enables us to find our voice, heal old wounds, let go of the stories we tell ourselves that do not serve us well and rediscover the power of the imagination to reconcile the past with the present and ultimately to create a more hopeful future.

  • learn how to create living stories that engage audiences on many levels.

‘Each of these workshops have deepened my thoughts both about what and why I want to write, but also in understanding my own self, as the self beneath the writing.’

Alis Wood

‘I thoroughly enjoyed the Alchemy of Story workshop series. Such a vibrant and exciting subject to base a workshop series on. Rosie is a great workshop facilitator: animated and interesting who effortlessly brought us out of our shells as a group.'

Mechanics of Story Workshops

‘Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.’

Pablo Picasso

The Mechanics of Story workshops cover a wide range of technical subjects, genres and forms, teaching the nuts and bolts of fiction and non-fiction writing.

There’s both an art and a craft to creating stories and while the art of story is fundamental it can only be accessed through a mastery of the craft. Here we get down to the nitty gritty of story, looking closely at the tools used for creating fiction and non-fiction narratives.

Characterisation, dialogue, description, plot, action, point of view, suspense . . . each playing a vital role in enabling the confident creation of stories.

‘Supportive, clear, creative and inspiring. Opened new possibilities for me.’
